Insuring a Marion Home and Family
What we look at first in Marion. Weather, water and the road.
Every policy is different, but the same few questions come up again and again with Marion clients. Here's how we think about them.
Ohio storms and winter
Spring and summer bring severe thunderstorms, straight-line winds, hail and the occasional tornado. Winter brings freezes, burst pipes, ice dams and heavy snow. Wind, hail and sudden pipe bursts are typically covered on a homeowners policy, subject to your deductible. Some policies carry a separate wind/hail deductible, figured as a percentage of the dwelling limit, so it's worth knowing your number before storm season.
Basements and water backup
Plenty of Marion homes have basements, and a lot of them are older. Water that backs up through a sewer or drain, or overflows when a sump pump fails, is usually excluded from a standard homeowners policy unless you add a water backup endorsement. A storm that knocks out the power can stop a sump pump right when it's needed. We'll show you the endorsement limits side by side. The same applies to condo and renters policies.
Flooding near the Little Scioto River
Flood is a separate peril from backup, and standard homeowners policies don't cover it. Homes near the Little Scioto River and along local creeks can see water rise quickly in heavy rain. A flood policy is a separate purchase, NFIP policies generally have a 30-day waiting period, and lenders require flood coverage for homes in high-risk zones. Check your zone instead of assuming.
Driving in and out of Marion
Ohio's auto minimum is 25/50/25: $25,000 of bodily injury coverage per person, $50,000 per accident and $25,000 of property damage. Ohio is an at-fault state, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage and PIP are optional. A lot of Marion drivers commute down US-23 or across SR-4 every day, and the minimum often doesn't go far after a serious crash. We'll show you what higher limits and UM/UIM may cost before you decide. If you have a home and assets to protect, an umbrella policy adds another layer on top.
Marion businesses and rental owners
From storefronts to dental and medical offices to rental properties, we write business insurance and landlord coverage too. Ohio workers' comp is bought through the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC), not private carriers. We can help you coordinate it with the rest of your business policy.
